Meeting in the Middle

I've always loved the country. I like to imagine living in a farmhouse on lot's of property in a small town. We would have horses and tractors and cold winters by the fire and warm summers hanging on tire swings. We would have wide open spaces to run and play.

I'm not sure where this desire comes from since I was born and raised in a major city. Even when I attended college in a small town I was miserable. Maybe it's from growing up watching Little House on the Prairie. Maybe it's from my dad who always wanted to be a farmer. Maybe it's just the fascination with what I don't have.

The amusing part is I married a heart-and-soul city lover. My husband would not survive anywhere unless there was a Starbucks within a 5 mile radius. We have been on several vacations together and his all time favorite will always be New York City. No surprise mine is Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Don't get me wrong. I love being able to hop in my car and drive a short distance if I need a new trendy outfit or just make a quick Target run. At the same time my husband enjoys the mountains and likes country music probably more than me. We learn from eachother and being opposites makes our marriage full of adventure.

Now that we have children it will be interesting to see where their natural bend is. Hopefully I can persuade one of them to appreciate the serene country life. In the meantime Emersen is showing us how to meet in the middle.
