So I thought Kermit was going to be the extent of any critters around here but I guess I was wrong. Yesterday during a surprisingly calm moment in my house I walked into the dining room to find a SNAKE crawling around on the floor. In half of a second our calm moment turned into absolute pandemonium. Did I mention in my last post how much I don't like frogs? Well I would marry one if it kept me from coming into contact with a snake. My husband happened to be on an airplane at the moment so I was on my own with my two children to tackle this thing. I wish I could say I was brave and strong and had all the fortitude to know just what to do and did it to save my family but no that's not quite how the story goes. Rather I screamed to Rhett "THERE'S A SNAKE IN THE HOUSE"while jumping on the couch, which is exactly the best thing to do if you don't want to alarm a four year old. My son calmly replied, "mom I'm going to go watch a movie in the bedroom with the door closed until you catch it, ok?" At least he wasn't scared. I'll work on the chivalry in a few years. Anyways while standing on the couch I called our friend who lives down the street hoping he might know what to do. He came over but the problem was I lost the snake during the interim. Long story short we found the snake in the kitchen sticking his head out of the dishwasher vent and then went up into it. My friend tried to catch it in the dishwasher but he was already gone. We also found a hole going into the wall next to the dishwasher that we plugged up with a towel. My sister came over and helped me build quite the fort to block any crevice exposed to light around the dishwasher and hole with stepping stones from outside and more dish rags.
Today when I opened the dishwasher I had a nice little ant colony feasting on my dishes and silverware. I wanted to say, "welcome to the party but you missed snakie he left yesterday." Instead I ran the dishwasher hoping to kill them all. It seemed to work until a little while ago I noticed a whole new colony has come to visit. I'm not sure where they are coming from because I can't find any holes or ants outside near our dishwasher. I can't wait to see who will be staying with us tomorrow. Since we have already done the amphhibian, reptile and bug thing I'm getting kind of scared we might be moving into animal territory.
Meanwhile I'm also working on a new house painting project so the rest of my house could easily be mistaken for a zoo as well. My four year old is feeding my one year old, his room is out of control, all toys are out and I have not gone grocery shopping in over a week. On the bright side my painting project is going well but tomorrow will be very telling to how it's going to turn out. If I like it I'll post pictures.
By the way I just checked on Kermit awhile ago and I really thought he was dead because he is NOT MOVING AT ALL. The evil part of me was just starting to get excited when I think he winked at me. This guy is going to stick around to spite me and bring all his friends over as well. Goodbye control, hello Evan Almighty.

That is funny. I so hope you keep that snake up by you. I had a family of mice in my house once when Bret was gone. It's funny how such a small thing can put us in such a panic. I am good with a broom if needed give a call.
Awesome T! At first I couldn't figure out if the ANIMAL LOVER Rhett would help you out with the snake situation or if the RESERVED AND CAUTIOUS Rhett would steer clear. I'm glad he decided to stay out of it! Funny Stuff!
I think you are surpassing my crazy life! I would have been freaked too. I think I would have moved into a motel until it was found.
WoW! You are so brave, Tara! I would have left just like Kara. I love Rhett's reaction, that's classic.
I am so sorry!! Maybe the animals feel safe in your house. :)
Yeah-But I think I would have gone higher-like to the kitchen counter!! You are one brave Chickie!! I have a whole new respect for you, Tara.
Our snake was found in the backyard on the patio furniture. But, I too, called the neighbor to help as my husband, as well, was out of town at the moment. Isn't that always the way!! :)
