SUMMER LOVIN

In about 10 hours it will FINALLY, officially be summer in the Kaya household.  We are more than ready to embrace long mornings of sleeping in and open schedules to do whatever we please at a moments notice.  However the obsessive- compulsive in me must have some agenda so here is my plan in how to embrace the next two months of Summer Fun:

SUMMER READIN

Falling for God- Gary W. Moon

The Unlikely Disciple- Kevin Roose

7 Practices of Effective Ministry- Andy Stanley, Reggie Joiner, Lane Jones

Making Room for Life- Randee Frazee (already finished this one but reviewing notes)

SUMMER COOKIN

Lots of grilling outside alfresco style using recipes from this magazine.

Keeping freezer stocked with Dreyer's fruit bars to cool kids off from the heat.

SUMMER WORKIN

Noah's Club- Learning about God's love by understanding God does what He says He will do and God knows what's best for me.

Paint Rhett's room and frame his original art pictures

De-clutter Emmie's room and buy her a bed

Scrape popcorn off of all ceilings in the house.

Plant a garden

Rhett's summer goals:
1. learn to read
2. swim better
3. learn to ride two wheeler

Emmie's summer goals:
1. take a dance class
2. learn to swim
3. talking in longer sentences that others can understand

SUMMER PLAYIN

Keeping weekly beach day tradition.  Probably Thursdays at Coronado.

Watch free movies under the stars Tuesday nights at Viejas.

Go to tidepools in Pt. Loma

Take the kids to see Le Miserables at Junior Theater in Balboa Park

Annual La Jolla shores end of summer family bonfire

Take in a game at Petco Park

Play dates at the park or neighborhood pool

Legoland

Shop at a few Farmers Markets

Go on a twilight walk at Mission Trails

Hike Cowles Mountain

Have a weekly "family night."

Family vacation

Without Kids-
Go wine tasting
Girlfriend July getaway

For summer this list already seems a bit long.  However a wise friend told me a few years back that her motto as a mom of young children was to wear them out before they wore her out. This is not a to do list.  I don't need to check off every item before summer is over (as tempting as that is.)  It's a simple plan to take in this new season.  After all those that fail to plan should plan to fail right?  My main objective this summer is to see more smiles on the faces of my family then grimaces which we have had a lot of lately.  I'm feeling optimistic.  It's not even summer yet and I'm already LOVIN it!
