For the past several months I've dreaded the four o'clock hour after Emmie wakes up from her nap. My kids are usually hungry and grumpy, dad is not home yet and it's too early for dinner. Lately or more like for awhile now since summer Rhett has been watching way too much TV. His recent favorite channel is cartoon network which is a problem in itself since there is really only tone show we allow him to watch on that channel. So every day we battle it out because he wants to watch tv but he only wants to watch one channel and more than likely the program on that channel is not acceptable. With the TV addiction around here coupled with the late afternoon frenzies I'm getting desperate for a solution. I think I've found it.
I always thought in the back of my mind I should be playing music more in our home during the day but Rod takes his ipod to work and I'm not sure the condition of our cd player. Today I finally had an epiphany right around four o'clock. Cox digital cable has a music channel. When I turned on the TV looking for the music I found not only do they have a music channel but more like twenty of them. Everything from rock to country to Christian to classical. They have 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. I felt like a kid in a candy store. I put Emmie in her highchair with some dried cereal and milk and blasted the TV music. Rhett put his toys away while I vacumned and swept the floor. We sang along with the Pet Shop Boys, Always on My Mind and Danced with Amy Grant singing Sing Your Praise to the Lord. Emmie could not wait to get out of her seat to join the party. Funny of all the different styles my son preferred the Polka. The hour flew by and soon Rod was coming home and it was time for dinner.
I'm actually looking forward to the dreaded hour tomorrow when the kids and I can rock the house. I might even play a little polka earlier in the day, it's better than cartoon network.

Chad loves all those music channels. He loves getting ready in the morning to Big Band! Very annoying for me!
That's so sweet. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of us having music on and certain songs bring me right back. Good thinking!
Music does wonders!! :)
I want to know if it worked as well on the next day too? :)
Shannon- Funny you should mention that. Yesterday when I turned the music on Rhett turned the TV off and said it was too loud and he wanted to watch cartoons. I'm not giving up, I think we just have to work out the minor adjustments.
